Irritating IKEA Light
Overview
This wasn't interesting/time consuming enough to make into project entry but still wanted to put it up somewhere. Basically I recently bought a nifty light from IKEA with two adjustable heads on it, perfect for my workshop I thought. It didn't come with lights, which was fine for the $6 I paid I could afford to pick up some. How wrong I was! It took R25 type bulbs, which are incredibly hard to find, and nothing else will fit into the socket. So I did what any good engineer would do and rip it to shreds and piece it back together how I wanted.
Parts and Tools
- 2 Normal Light Sockets ~ $3
- Screwdriver
- Dremel with metal cutting wheel
- Hot glue gun
Process
- Dremeled at the base of the light covers to get to the socket. It easily popped out and then I just broke off the wires

- Attached the wires to my new sockets, and then hot glued them onto the base.

- Added some ridiculously bright lights. That was it, not much work involved!

- I did at one point try to put the light covers back on, but that caused all of the metal to heat up and melt the hot glue at the base.
Conclusion
Pay attention to what you buy, but in the end I think it was still worth it. I spent roughly $10 for a light with two flexible heads, looking around at Lowes when I was getting the sockets, this is a complete steal(Individual similar lights cost around $20 a piece). I still don't know why you'd make a light that takes a non-existent bulb though.
