Travel Sized Rabbit Cage
Overview
This is a much better cage than my original one, and is about half the size so it's easy to travel with.
Materials
- 2'x2' sheet of plywood for the base
- 2'x2' square of carpeting
- Smaller cable ties
- Boards roughly 2" in width and at least 8' in length for runners
- Staple gun staples
- Wood screws
- Rabbit fencing(Cheapest to get at a home improvement store)
Tools Used
- Any type of saw
- Staple gun
- Drill
- Screw driver
- Pliers with wire cutter on them
- Steel file
Construction
- Staple the carpet onto the plywood
- Cut the runners into 2' sections
- Cut one of those 2' segments into 3 8" segments(For attaching to the door later on
- Place the runners against the side of the base and drill guide holes through them into the base. Do this except for one middle 8" segment, where the door will go.
- Cut a 2'x3+' piece of fencing. Cut out a roughly 8"x6" square along the bottom of the 2' part for the door. Illustration below:
- Now attach the fencing to the sides of the baseboard with staples, make sure not to completely cover any drill holes. It should now be a large arch
- Cut sides out of fencing to completely close it in. Use the spare wire that comes with the fencing to attach it
- Attach the runners(Except the middle 8" one for the door) to the sides of the baseboard using woodscrews. The fencing is sandwhiched between the runners and the baseboard, further securing it
- Cut an 8"x6" piece of fencing and attach your leftover 8" board(Add a handle if desired beforehand), using staples.
- Use the cable ties as hinges to attach the door. To do this simple cable tie the fence and the door together at the top and cut off the excess.
- I didn't make any sort of locking mechanism since I completely take off the door when it's not in use for traveling, and use cable ties when it is. It would be very simple to add some simple latches on both sides of the runner to make it easier to lock.
